Becoming a Member

Our shop is only open to our members, who are families and individuals with limited disposable income. We are not a foodbank, and our members are not generally people who are in real crisis, they are just people who week on week struggle to pay for everything so could benefit from a cheaper food shop.

People who would like to become a member can either be referred by one of our partner organisations or can self-refer themselves. Self-referral involves a person getting in touch and arranging an appointment to come into the shop and sign up. They will then sit down with one of our team to fill out a membership form. During this process we will ask for some kind of verification that the person has limited disposable income. There are no strict criteria for this, but things like receiving Universal Credit, or another income based benefit, or receiving free school meals, or working with a debt charity, would automatically qualify a person. These are not essential though; membership is available to anybody with limited disposable income, whether they meet these criteria or not.

Pricing

Our members can pay £4.00 to choose 10 items from our shop. Bread, fruit and veg are all totally free in the shop, so people can also get as many of these items as they can use. Households with 3 or more people in them have the option to instead pay £6.00 for any 15 items of their choosing, as well as all the extras. All members can shop on any day our shops are open but you can only use a shop once a week, in any of our locations.
 

The Nest Cafe

Our members can also enjoy the benefits of huge discounts at our in-house cafe, which include such items as a pot of tea for 20p, jacket potato and beans, or tuna, with salad for as little as £1.50 and a cake for 30p.
